A new Bible is using the timeless word of God and commentary from Christian authors to create a tool to help young women navigate through the tough teenage years.

The NIV Bible is aimed at helping teen women grow in faith, hope, and love.

"The beauty of the Bible is that it's living and active," says Annie Downs, co-contributor to NIV Bible for Teen Girls. "There are so many voices that are trying to tell us who we are and I Iove that we actually have the answer... that we can actually go to scripture."

This new version of the NIV includes daily readings, highlighted promises of God, challenging insights, smart advice, and open discussion about the realities of life.

Downs, who has authored several books, including Let's All Be Brave and Perfectly Unique, spoke with CBN News about the importance of the Bible in a teens life. Click the play button to hear more from the speaker and author.

She also gave some advice to parents who are trying to get their teenagers to read the Bible.

"I would say for starters, don't push," she advised. "And so one thing I would say to parents is tell your students, tell your daughter, your son, tell them how the Bible has changed you.  Tell them stories from your teenage years when the Bible stepped in, when God's truth stepped in and did something different and made a difference in your life and that draws people to the Bible."

In this teen version of the Bible, Downs provides an analogy that the heart's valve represents the flow of God's love in our lives.

"It's His kindness to say 'This is how much I love you today, and here's how much I love you tommorow, and here's how much I love you the next day,'" she said.

The NIV Bible for Teen Girls can be purchased online or at your local Christian bookstore.
