Man vs. Whale: Chris Hemsworth on 'In the Heart of the Sea'

Moby Dick is a classic American novel. But many fans of the book may be surprised to learn Herman Melville's whale tale was actually inspired by a real life story of survival.

Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard brings the real life inspiration for Moby Dick to the big screen in the epic adventure film "In the Heart of the Sea," which opens nationwide Friday, Dec. 11, 2015.

The movie is based on Nathaniel Philbrick's award-winning book of the same name.

Actor Chris Hemsworth, best known as Thor in the "Avengers" film franchise, stars in Howard's movie. He plays first mate Owen Chase.

Hemsworth he actually introduced the script to Howard.
