The stage is set for the first Republican presidential debate, scheduled to air on Fox News at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday.

And with room for only a limited number of candidates, only those with the highest poll numbers will be participating.

Those include business mogul Donald Trump, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and  Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.

There will be a separate forum for the seven candidates who didn't make the cut: Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. Lindsey Graham, former Sen. Rick Santorum, former New York Gov. George Pataki and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore.

That forum will air on Fox News at 5 p.m., four hours before the main debate. But some analysts say it will now be a struggle for those candidates to keep their campaigns alive.
