One 92-year-old is proving that you're never too old to break records.

Harriette Thompson ran right into the record books on Sunday and became the oldest woman to finish a marathon.

Thompson ran the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego, breaking the record set by Gladys Burrill, who was was 92 years and 19 days old when she ran the Honolulu Marathon in 2010. Thompson is 92 years and 93 days old.

Thompson, a cancer survivor, finished the San Diego race in seven hours and 24 minutes.

"That [cancer] makes it personal, something that I really feel is important," Thompson told Runners' World.

Thompson didn't begin running marathons until she was in her 70s after a fellow church member approached her to be a sponsor in a marathon to fight leukemia and lymphoma.

An excited crowd waited for her, cheering for her on and joyously surrounding her when she crossed the finish line.

"I'm fine. They're really pampering me here," she said shortly after finishing the race.

She said she doesn't think she'd be living today if she wasn't running.
