California lawmakers have passed a bill creating some of the strictest vaccination requirements in the country.

It forces parents to vaccinate their kids or remove them from all public and private schools and homeschool them instead. Exemptions may be granted for some children with serious medical issues.

The move comes in reaction to last year's measles outbreak at Disneyland.

"The science remains unequivocal that vaccines are safe, that vaccines save lives," bill sponsor Sen. Richard Pan, D-Sacramento, said.

Many parents oppose the measure, saying it takes away their right to make their own choices for their kids.

"The majority of the people do not want this bill. They do not want to be mandated a medical procedure onto their children," one California mom said.

Some are worried it will put their children at risk, like Alexis Gatsis whose son who has an autoimmune condition.

"It runs contrary to what America is based on. I think this nation was founded on freedom to choose based on reason," Gatsis said.

Opponents of the bill are vowing to sue to overturn it if Gov. Jerry Brown signs it into law.

"I will sue to put my child in school," said Jude Tovatt, from Roseville, the parent of an 8-year-old child. "I will not run from the state that is our home."
