Heavy snow is expected to start falling overnight in the Rocky Mountains and Western Plains.

Forecasters say a strong storm system is targeting the Midwest and could cause tornadoes and blizzards in 12 states.

Northeastern Colorado, western Kansas and Nebraska could see up to eight inches of snow. Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming could also be hit by a blizzard.

The severe weather threat will affect other regions as well. The Weather Network reports that heavy snow, rain and strong wind will impact the Central and Southern Plains. The storm will move eastward to the Mississppi Valley and Western Gulf Coast later Wednesday.
