In the final night of Olympic track and field the men and women's 4x400 meter relay team won the gold.

It is a familiar accomplishment for the women, who have won their sixth consecutive gold in this Olympic event.

"I knew when I got on that home stretch to try to just bring it home strong," said Allyson Felix, who ran the anchor leg. "We have such a rich history in this event, just wanted to continue the legacy."

"I'm just grateful. (this is) not an individual medal, I did it with my teammates," she added. "It makes it very special in a very tough year. I'm happy to be able to close it out like this."

Courtney Okolo, Natasha Hastings and Phyllis Francis ran with Felix to earn the team first place, beating out Jamaica and Great Britain with a time of 3:19.06.

"I definitely felt a lot of pressure because I knew these ladies have been here before, and I didn't want to mess it up," said Okolo, who ran lead-off leg. "It was the right amount of pressure to get the job done. I'm glad we came away with the gold."

The men's team also got the job done. LaShawn Merritt anchored the team to victory, returning the Olympic title to America four years after Bahamas knocked them down to silver.

Arman Hall, Tony McQuay, Gil Roberts, and Merritt finished in 2:57:30.

"We really wanted to win this 4x4. It didn't go the way the guys wanted it four years ago, so we knew how important it was,'' said Merritt.

The track team closed out with a strong performance winning 31 medals in Rio.
