Just 39 days left until inauguration day, and President-elect Donald Trump has chosen more than 60% of his cabinet.

Today he announced his intent to appoint retired General John Kelly for Secretary of Homeland Security, a man he thinks is the right person to spearhead the fight against illegal immigration.

The transition team says to expect a decision on the highly anticipated secretary of state position in the coming days. The latest name out there is Exxon Chief Rex Tillerson. Critics are concerned with Tillerson's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Trump staffers argue that's a good thing because he knows how to deal with countries like Russia and China.

Making follow up visits to Trump Tower today: Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers amid speculation she will be tapped as interior secretary, and former Governor Rick Perry who is reportedly a finalist for secretary of energy.

Also headed to Trump Tower today: former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Reps. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, and Ryan Zinke, R-Mont.

The latter half of the week is devoted to the "thank you" tour with stops in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida and Alabama.
