Kirk Cameron and Sister Candace Remember Alan Thicke

Family, friends and fans are mourning the loss Alan Thicke. The 69-year-old actor and television icon suffered a heart attack and died Tuesday.

Kirk Cameron played the role of Thicke's son on the popular television series Growing Pains. And he reacted to his TV dad's death on social media.

"I'm shocked and truly heartbroken today at the news of his death," Cameron wrote in an Instagram post alongside a photo of the two of them onscreen together.

Cameron said, "Alan was a generous, kind and loving man. I am so blessed to have grown up with him."

Kirk's sister Candace Cameron Bure added her voice to the chorus of public prayers and support for the Thicke family. Alan Thicke recently guest starred on an episode of Bure's Netflix series, Fuller House.  

Candace said, "I'm sad beyond words that Alan Thicke has passed away."

She added, "I've known you since I was 8 years old and so glad I had the pleasure of working with you again so recently on Fuller House."

Candace also posted a photo of herself and Thicke on the set of her show.

Alan Thicke was possibly best known for the role of Dr. Jason Seaver in the 1980s hit "Growing Pains.

In a 1985 interview with the Associated Press, Thicke, said he would not have pitched a show like Growing Pains, but he also suggested the situation comedy fit the times.

The Canadian-born actor was also a television host, writer and composer. 

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, "Alan Thicke was proudly Canadian, never forgetting his roots as he soared to stardom."

Thicke was married to Gina Tolleson and he had three sons.
