Philippine officials are confirming that the radical Islamist group, Abu Sayyaf, located in the southern Philippines, beheaded a Canadian man, according to the Associated Press (ITALICS).

Robert Hall was among four others, including his wife, who were kidnapped and held hostage last September while vacationing at a resort on Samal Island.

CNN reports that the execution comes after Abu Sayyaf released a "final" video of the hostages begging Filipino President-elect Rodrigo Duerte for help.

Meanwhile, President Benigno S. Aquino III is condemning the execution.

"We strongly condemn the brutal and senseless murder of Mr. Robert Hall, a Canadian citizen, after being held captive by the Abu Sayyaf group in Sulu for the past nine months," Sonny Coloma, a spokesman for the president, said Tuesday. "We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to his bereaved family."

"We truly regret that our people's cherished tradition of extending gracious hospitality toward foreign nationals has been marred by a small band of criminals," Coloma added.

Hall is the second Canadian hostage to be killed in two months. The other Canadian in the group, former mining executive John Ridsdel, was beheaded in April of this year.
