Planned Parenthood Offers Transgenders Help with Sex Changes

Abortion provider Planned Parenthood is helping transgender people through the process of undergoing a sex-change.

"Whether you're transgender or cisgender, you can visit your local Planned Parenthood health center for STD testing, birth control, physical exams, other sexual and reproductive health services, and referrals," the organization's website states. "At this time, only some Planned Parenthood health centers are able to offer hormone treatments for trans people."

Peter Sprigg, a senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, told FoxNews.com the harshest pushback might not come from Americans who consider the treatments "bizarre," but instead "from clients who recognize this was not in their best interest."

Planned Parenthood only mandates that prospective patients give "consent for services," according to the Mar Monte Planned Parenthood website.

The Standards of Care manual put together by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health states that individuals wanting a sex-change should first undergo an examination by a mental health professional who would "assess clients' gender dysphoria."

Right now, 32 Planned Parenthood centers provide the hormone treatments in 10 states: California, Colorado, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Vermont and Washington.

Planned Parenthood's Tumblr account says, "There are an increasing number of Planned Parenthood health centers that offer hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for trans clients."
