Severe weather hit parts of the Great Plains and the Ohio Valley, bringing flooding and tornadoes -- and the National Weather Service warns that it could get worse.

On Wednesday night, tornadoes hit Oklahoma, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio and southern Illinois, damaging homes and businesses.

The storms also downed trees and damaged buildings in northeast Texas.

Many families were able to find shelter during the storm, but Kentucky State Police stay at least 10 people were killed Wednesday night.

Resident Tammy Rolin said her family did a lot of praying.

"It worked. The good Lord brought us through it," she said.

The EF4 tornado that hit Oklahoma was the strongest tornado of the year.

"There's a home where basically there's no walls left," said Rick Smith, a National Weather Service meteorologist. "Everything that used to be the home is just a pile of rubble, so there's no roof, there's no walls - there's just kind of the foundation where the home used to be."

It is reported that two people have been killed so far.

Search and rescue efforts have begun in all six states.
