Home Depot confirms that millions of customers could be at risk after hackers accessed its payment systems.

Shoppers who used credit and debit cards at the company's more than 2,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada are endangered.

"It is important to emphasize that no customers will be responsible for fraudulent charges to their accounts," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frank Blake said in a statement.

The home improvement store is the largest retailer to suffer such a data breach.

It's potentially bigger than the hacking of Target's database last year, which resulted in the theft of 40 million debit and credit card numbers and possibly exposed the personal information of more than 70 million shoppers.
