More Mothers Staying at Home to Raise their Kids

A growing number of educated mothers are leaving the work force to stay at home full time to raise their kids, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center.

Researchers say 29 percent of mothers did not work outside the home in 2012, up from a low of 23 percent at the turn of the century.

Two-thirds of at-home-mothers had working husbands and half of them had at least one child age 5 or younger.

The mothers analyzed in the study had "at least a Master's degree, an annual family income of $75,000 or more; a working husband; and have stated that they are out of the workforce in order to care for their family," the report said.
