In the wake of four rulings against traditional marriage, supporters are working to find ways to uphold it.

Federal judges in Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Virginia have voided all or part of bans on same-sex marriage that voters approved.

In Washington, D.C., lawmakers in bother chambers have introduced a bill, the State Marriage Defence Act, that would require the federal government to respect state determinations of marital status.

Meanwhile on the state level, traditional marriage supporters are crafting a variety of bills. Some would protect bans on gay marriage and others would protect religious rights should those bans be struck down.
