JACKSONVILLE, FL – A Florida man recently spent his 47th birthday praising the Lord for saving his life after he was shot in an attempted robbery back in May.

"The Holy Ghost kept me through it all. I never felt pain from the gunshot," Lonnie Lamar told Jacksonville's News4Jax.

Lamar was shot twice in the torso when he was walking towards the watch TV after a long day of work.

"I realized I had been shot, but I wasn't feeling any pain or anything," Lamar said. Adding that once he came to that realization he, "just kept it moving."

He was able to make it across the street to his neighbor's home. She called the police while Lamar went back to his own home to wait for the Jacksonville Sherriff's Office and the ambulance to arrive.

Lamar was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery to save his life and then began the road the recovery.

He credits God's love for how he was able to pull through during one of the hardest weeks of his life.

"When God is with you, who could be against you?" Lamar said.

Lamar told reporters he has forgiven the man who shot him, but that person has not yet been caught.
