Oversight or Overreach? Trump Blasts Far-Reaching Dem Investigations as 'HARASSMENT'

President Trump is pushing back against Democrats and their sweeping new investigations, insisting there is nothing to see.

"It's a disgrace," the president said. "It's a disgrace to our country."

The House Judiciary Committee sent 81 letters Monday to people and organizations seeking information in investigations into everything from obstruction of justice, to corruption and abuse of power.

"Congress has an independent responsibility, a very solemn one, to do oversight," said Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.

While promising cooperation, the Trump administration is in a combative stance.

The president tweeted that it was "PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT" and that the Democrats were looking for a crime to charge him with.

"The greatest overreach in the history of our Country. The Dems are obstructing justice and will not get anything done," he wrote. "A big, fat, fishing expedition desperately in search of a crime, when in fact the real crime is what the Dems are doing, and have done!"

The White House counsel's office rejected the committee's request for documents regarding security clearances, including for the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"The president had no involvement pertaining to my clearance or my husband's clearance – zero," Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, said in a recent interview with ABC News

In an interview on Fox News Radio, the president's son Eric Trump said, "We'll fight where we need and we'll cooperate where we'll need."

The White House is beefing up its legal team with a dozen lawyers and a special attorney to handle the media.

On the CBN News show "Faith Nation," Capitol Hill Correspondent Abigail Robertson talked about why Congress is launching new investigations in addition to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

"One of the key distinctions Democrats are making between what the Mueller investigation and the House investigations are pursuing is that they're not guaranteeing that the Mueller investigation will be made public, and so they want to pursue investigations that they know mainly will be made public," explained Robertson.

Former Trump attorney Ty Cobb says the Mueller probe is not likely to do political damage because it does not prove collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Cobb made the comments during an interview with CNN. He also said he respects Mueller and does not consider the investigation a witch hunt.

Meanwhile, as Democrats pursue their investigations into the president, Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen is returning to Congress today for a fourth day of testimony behind closed doors.
