Claims of Questionable Hysterectomies and COVID Practices at Detention Center Lead to Investigation

A whistleblower complaint about COVID practices and the number of hysterectomies at a Georgia detention center has sparked pushback from the Department of Homeland Security.

A nurse at the Irwin County Detention Center is speaking out about questionable hysterectomies, a refusal to test detainees for COVID-19, and shredded medical records.

A spokesman for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement "vehemently" disputes the claims, and says only two detainees have been referred for hysterectomies from the facility since 2018.

Faith leaders with the Evangelical Immigration Table are applauding an investigation into the claims by the department's inspector general and are calling for the findings to be made public.

CBN News spoke with Dona Abbott, senior vice president of global, refugee, and immigrant services at Bethany Christian Services, about medical practices in detention centers.
