For the first time in 50 years, the new governor of Indonesia's capital city of Jarkata is a Christian.

Gov. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama took the oath of office on Wednesday.

Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population. Purnama's swearing in comes despite protests from Islamic hardliners that only a Muslim should hold that position.

The 48-year-old Protestant leader has a reputation for outspokenness and a track record for fighting corruption and cutting red tape.
