Russian hackers were behind the electronic break in of the State Department in recent months, according to a CNN report.

The cyber intruders were able to gain access to some sensitive information in the White House computer system, such as details of the president's schedule.

Without confirming the Russian hack, National Security Council spokesman Mark Stroh told CNN "any such activity is something we take very seriously."

"In this case, as we made clear at the time, we took immediate measures to evaluate and mitigate the activity," he said. "As has been our position, we are not going to comment on [this] article's attribution to specific actors."

Meanwhile, the Russians have also strengthened their military.

The Hill reports that a U.S. admiral said Moscow has developed a "far more capable military" than the Soviet Union had.

Adm. William Gortney is the commander in charge of defending North America. He also said Russia is employing that military capability in Ukraine.
