ISIS is continuing the destruction of historical sites in Syria.

Syrian activists say terrorists have now destroyed the centuries-old triumphal arch in the city of Palmyra.

The nearly 2,000-year-old arch was one of the most recognizable sites in the city.

Palmyra contains the ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centers of the ancient world.

The city was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site.

ISIS has been destroying historic sites across the territory it controls in Iraq and Syria since May.
