A judge in China has ruled that a gay couple cannot get married. It was the country's first same-sex marriage case.

The court dismissed a lawsuit against a local civil affairs bureau which had refused to give the two men a marriage restoration certificate.

The gay man who brought the case says he'll appeal, and he'll keep on going until he exhausts all legal options.

Homosexuality is not illegal in China, but it is rare for same-sex couples to live openly, and the country does not recognize same-sex marriage.

Officials with the central government have said they don't see the law changing soon.
