French officials have learned new information about a gunman who killed two police officers in a Paris suburb.

Larossi Abballa stabbed an off-duty police commander and his girlfriend at their home, and then took their 3-year-old hostage before police stormed the house, killing him and rescuing the child.

Police officials have now learned that Abballa showed up at a neighborhood mosque just hours before the attack.

The Muslim cleric who spoke to officials, mentioned that Abballa rarely attended services, but on this night he was found praying and reading the Koran.

He prayed so long at the mosque that they had to kick him out.

Abballa confessed to killing the off-duty police officials in a broadcasted video of the attack on Facebook.

"I just killed a police officer and his wife," he said. "The police are currently surrounding me," he added.

He then listed other planned targets, including rappers, journalists, police officers and police officials.

He also confessed that he was a former jihadi recruiter.

Authorities have not said whether there was any link between Abballa and the victims.
