A 70-year-old woman in Egypt who was stripped naked and paraded through the streets of El Minya has forgiven her attackers.

"I forgive them and may God forgive them," Souad Thabet Abdalla told Egyptian news outlets.

She added that she does not want help from anyone and that she is not in El Minya at all. A video of her interview was posted on Youtube.

Abdalla was dragged from her home, beaten, verbally assaulted, and stripped before being exposed through the streets in Karama, the Minya province south of Cairo.

Her attackers chanted "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is great," during the attack. Church leaders reported seven Christian homes were also torched by the mob of nearly 300 Muslim men.

Rumors that the ederly woman's son, a married Christian man, was having an affair with a Muslim woman prompted the violence.

Police did not respond to the situation for nearly two hours. By the time they arrived, the mob had dissolved.

Christians in Egypt have long complained about religious persecution without any relief. As a religious mintory, they make up only 10 percent of the mostly Muslim population.
