The Battle for Mosul: Iraqi Forces Close in on ISIS

Iraqi forces advanced on ISIS outside of Mosul Tuesday morning, according to reports. Troops have reportedly taken full control of the industrial district within Gogjali and have it entirely surrounded.

This is the last populated area before the outskirts of eastern Mosul. Their strategy is to "squeeze" ISIS fighters from different directions.

Around 100,000 Iraqi-led forces have moved toward Mosul since Oct. 17 to fight against the group's torturous rule.

Monday night, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi warned the 5,000 ISIS militants before his troops entered the city.

"There is no way to escape. Either surrender or die," he told a reporter for state-run Iraqiya TV at the Qayyara airbase.

We will "cut the head (off) the snake," he added.

Commander of Special Forces for Counter Terrorism, Maj. Gen. Maan al- Saadi, told CNN they were waiting on a more unified front before entering the city.

Smoke could be seen coming from Mosul from oil trenches that were set to stop warplanes from striking ISIS targets and to keep troops from entering.

It is reported that ISIS has set up dozens of suicide truck and car bombs around Mosul, as well as rigged bridges with explosives.

Women and children are also being used as human shields by the terrorist group.
