Pope Francis is calling the Internet a "gift from God," saying it makes communication easier.

In a statement released Thursday, he also warned that being obsessed with staying connected can actually isolate people from friends and family.

In his message, the Pope talked about what the digital era means for Catholics interacting with people of different faiths and backgrounds.

"To (have a) dialogue means to believe that the 'other' has something worthwhile to say, and to entertain his or her point of view and perspective," Pope Francis wrote. "Engaging in dialogue does not mean renouncing our own ideas and traditions, but the pretense that they alone are valid and absolute."
