Islamic rebels in Syria have released 13 Greek Orthodox nuns they had been holding hostage since December.

In total, 16 women were let go, including the nuns and their three helpers. In exchange, Syrian authorities are releasing dozens of female prisoners.

The nuns' seizure confirmed the fears of many in Syria's minority Christian community that they are being targeted by Muslim extremists among rebels.
