Concerned Women for America President: 'ERA is About Taxpayer-Funded Abortion'

There are new efforts on Capitol Hill to revive the expired Equal Rights Amendment or ERA. On Thursday, the House is expected to vote on a resolution to remove the deadline for states to ratify it.

If approved by the Senate, it would allow the ERA amendment to be added to the Constitution. Last month, Virginia became the 38th state to approve it.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) joined ERA proponents ahead of the vote.

"Here we are in this Congress, during which time we will observe the 100th anniversary of women having the right to vote and the ERA is still not enshrined in the Constitution," Pelosi said. "As a result, women still face inequality under the law. With this resolution, we take a giant step toward equality for women, progress for families, and a stronger America."

However, many legal experts and critics say this latest effort by Democrats won't fly, adding that women already enjoy equal rights protections under the Constitution.

As CBN News reported, even liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg thinks what the Democrats are trying to do is already moot. Ginsburg had been a supporter of the ERA, but it sounds like she agrees the deadline has passed, and that's something that can't be undone.

She said Virginia Democrats' attempt to push the ERA across the threshold has come too late, "long after the deadline passed."

"I would like to see a new beginning," CNN reports Ginsburg telling a Georgetown University Law Center audience on Monday night. "I'd like it to start over."

Penny Nance, president, and CEO of Concerned Women for America appeared on Wednesday's edition of CBN News' Faith Nation to discuss the ERA's chances of being added to the Constitution.  Faith Nation is seen weeknights on the CBN News Channel.  For a programming schedule, click here.
