Grandma Myint began to take care of Zin, 10, and Moe, 8, after their father died and their mother abandoned them. She made rice snacks to sell in the morning as people headed for work.  She earned a dollar-fifty a day, until a monsoon flooded their home in Myanmar.

“The flood ruined all my cooking equipment and supplies for preparing food,” said Grandma Myint.

“Because Grandma could not sell snacks, we had no money to buy food,” said a tearful Zin. “I felt so sad.

“Later, I found out that my grandson was eating the scraps of food that kids threw away at school,” said Grandma.

Then Grandma took out a loan to restart the business.  To pay it back the loan and have enough for food, she needed to sell even more food.  So they all woke up early and Grandma sent the kids to the market to buy daily supplies.

“Once we were chased by 8 dogs!” said Zin. “One of them bit my sister.”

Grandma’s debt continued to grow.  She had no choice but to borrow more just to pay the interest on the loans.

“It was a huge amount! I couldn’t sleep at night. No matter how hard I worked, I couldn’t pay it back.

So CBN’s Orphan’s Promise helped Grandma start a new wholesale business selling rice and dried beans.  As she sold and re-invested her profits, her income quickly grew from a dollar-fifty to twenty dollars a day!   Within a year, she paid off her 15-hundred-dollar debt!

“Words cannot express how happy I am to be free of debt,” said Grandma clapping her hands.

“My Grandma has a good business now,” added Zin. “Thank you to everyone who helped us!”
