SHOW ME THE FATHER

On September 10, 2021, Sony Pictures’ AFFIRM Films and the Kendrick Brothers will release their first documentary, Show Me the Father. The film is 90 minutes and features five stories about fatherhood. It is a film not meant to open wounds or discourage people, but to offer encouragement and hope no matter what your relationship with your father looks like.

The title for the documentary comes from the disciple’s conversation with Jesus in NIV. (8) Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” (9) Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?'"

Stephen says, “Everyone has a father story, but not everyone has learned how to redeem it for their own good and the good of others.”  “Even though fatherlessness is directly connected to so much brokenness in today’s world, we wanted to go beyond traditional documentaries and show how God is the perfect Father and can amazingly provide the love and healing to anyone at any stage in life.”

The documentary provides a fresh perspective on the roles of fathers in today’s society and invites you to think differently about how you view your earthly father, and how you personally relate to God. Some of the cast includes: Dr. Tony Evans, Jim Daly, Sherman Smith, Deland McCullough, as well as Alex and Stephen.

COURAGEOUS LEGACY

COURAGEOUS is a Kendrick Brothers’ classic film about four law enforcement officers that are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. When tragedy hits home, they are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering.

The film was originally released in September 2011. “In September 2011, COURAGEOUS was estimated to open at the box office with $1.5 million and it ended the weekend as the #1 new movie, with $9.4 million in the first frame,” said Rich Peluso, EVP/Head of AFFIRM Films. Sherwood Pictures, Provident Films, and Sony Pictures’ AFFIRM Films, will release COURAGEOUS Legacy, the remastered (to look and sound better) Kendrick Brothers’ film with added scenes to mark the films 10th anniversary, in theaters nationwide on September 24, 2021.

“We’re humbled and gratified that COURAGEOUS is continuing to make a global impact,” says Alex. “The Lord has been graciously using this film all over the world for a decade and we can’t wait to see how the film is received by a new generation of fathers and their families.”

The Fatherhood CoMission, a courageous advocate for fatherhood, was born out of the success of COURAGEOUS. This collection of likeminded ministries and leaders champion fatherhood both inside and outside the church by promoting God’s design for dads as noble difference makers in their families and the world. Due to the potential impact of this film some of the Nation’s Top Family and Fathering organizations came together to support the film.

During the course of working together the question was raised “What would happen if we as organizations worked together after Courageous to mobilize, strengthen and encourage churches to strengthen fathers?” The Fatherhood CoMission was structured to be an organization that mobilized several groups including the church to work together on a common mission. Its purpose was not to highlight or promote any one organization or project but serve as a convening, empowering entity so national, regional and groups could do their work more effectively.
