Finding Help and Hope in Hurricane Aftermath

Teri is a single mom raising her active 12-year-old daughter, Alyssa.

“She’s into dance and gymnastics, and running, or jumping, and it’s just go, go, go all the time,” Teri says.

When Hurricane Michael barreled towards Panama City Beach, the power went out, and Teri decided she needed to keep her daughter safe.

“So, by flashlight, I packed up the suitcase full of clothes and we got in the car and we headed north to Georgia to some friend’s house,” Teri says.  “And I think it was the wisest thing I could’ve ever done.”

She made it out just before the storm delivered record damage to her hometown. When she came back two days later, she wasn’t prepared for what she saw.

“It was devastating,” Teri says. “This is her home, this is the only home she’s ever known. I didn’t want her to see this. We just didn’t know what to do, you don’t know where to start.”

With such widespread devastation, it was hard for her to find help.

“Every one of my family and friends, they’re dealing with the same thing I am,” says Teri. “So, it’s not like I can call my brother and different people and come help me cause they’re all dealing with their own.”

That’s when Operation Blessing came to her rescue!

“I was so overwhelmed, I didn’t know where to start,” Teri says. “They helped me pack and sort, and haul stuff out to the road, and tear out sheetrock, and so many amazing, amazing things. I cannot say enough about Operation Blessing.”

And our volunteers spent time with her.

“They would pray with me, and they would share stories with me,” Teri says. “They are incredible people with the biggest hearts of people that I’ve ever met.”

In Teri’s time of need, Operation Blessing was there.

Teri says, “When we are surrounded by destruction, to have these people come in, help get our homes to where they can come in and rebuild. It is an amazing blessing. We thank you for everything you did for us.”
