STORMS OF LIFE

Lindsay Roberts grew up a driven introverted bookworm who was no stranger to trials. Her father died of cancer when she was only twelve and her mother became ill soon after. Her mother was a Christian who watched Oral Roberts nightly TV program and read his book, 3 Most Important Steps to Your Better Health and Miracle Living. Lindsay's mother was soon healed by standing on God's promises for healing.

After Lindsay graduated from Rollins College, her dream was to go to law school. After being accepted into Oral Roberts University (ORU) law school, it looked like her dreams were coming true. Lindsay was focused on her studies and had no interest in meeting boys. But one of her classmates had other ideas. He wanted her to meet Richard Roberts but Lindsay refused.

So, he tricked her into meeting Richard by asking for a ride to an event. When she agreed to drive him, when they got there, she was introduced to Richard. Lindsay was furious! Even though their first introduction was awkward, Richard called and asked Lindsay to dinner and she eventually agreed. During that meal, Richard won Lindsay over, they fell in love, and had a short courtship before marriage. Yet, the struggle to start a family would prove difficult.

Before marriage, Lindsay was told when she was 18 years old that she would never have children. After she married Richard, at 25, Lindsay was in the hospital with a cyst on her only functioning ovary. The doctor operated on it and was prepared to do a hysterectomy, but before the surgeon's eyes, God supernaturally healed her.

After the surgery, Richard and Lindsay were able to conceive, however, this became the first of two miscarriages. Then, the third pregnancy seemed successful with the birth of their son, Richard Oral, on January 17, 1984. Sadly, he died two days later. Lindsay shares, “I’ve heard that there is part of God’s heart that you cannot know unless you have suffered.” She admits that she grew closer to the Lord during those dark days.

After the loss of their son, Richard was preparing to go on a crusade in Nigeria. He was going to cancel the trip, but Lindsay told him to go ahead and she would follow. Lindsay had been given a Rhema word by Kenneth Copeland about having children. She would declare, confess, and believe the word until it came to pass. God also told her that on the trip to Nigeria she would be healed. Shortly after they came back from their trip, she was pregnant with their first daughter, Jordan. Richard and Lindsay were later blessed with two more daughters, Olivia and Chloe.

TIME FOR PURPOSE

Lindsay’s helped her father-in-law, Oral Roberts, by editing several of his books. Her introverted and studious nature helped them both in that regard. In addition, Oral would frequently pass down good books he was reading to her. Lindsay would devour them and they would discuss them at length.
Before his death in 2009, Oral told Lindsay that God had given him a vision that she was to help women discover who they are in Christ. Lindsay has shared that message since.

DIFFERENT BUT THE SAME

In Luke 8, we find three followers of Jesus that were with Him when he taught the parable of the sower. They were Mary Magdalene, Susanna, and Joanna. They couldn’t be more different: Mary Magdalene was cured of demons and possibly a prostitute, Susanna was the wife of Chuza, the manager or CFO of Herod’s household, while Joanna was a quiet woman of means.  Even though they had very different backgrounds, they all shared a love for Jesus and supported His ministry. Women today can glean that Jesus didn’t choose followers based on their outward appearance, how they looked, or based on what they did or didn’t do. The Lord showed us by example that He looks upon the heart and that all are welcome to follow Him.

GOD OF THE UNCONVENTIONAL

During her study of the Bible, Lindsay shares how God works in unconventional ways. For example, when He parted the Red Sea ( ), created Adam out of dust ( ), made the sun stand still to bring victory to His people ( ), and taught us that we must give to gain ( ), He used women in key roles when it was unpopular to do so.

DEBORAH

Anyone who has been a Christian for a while knows the story of Deborah. God appointed her as judge and prophetess to Israel. A woman judge was rare in those days. Lindsay explains, “Her example and magnificent leadership provide one of Scriptures first validations of women in leadership, women of power—chosen on purpose and not because a man wasn’t available—whom God used mightily.” She garnered respect because of the anointing God placed upon her. Barak the commanding officer of the army of Israel refused to go into battle without her ( ).
