UK: "Three Little Pigs" Offensive to Muslims

01-25-2008

A British government agency's awards panel has rejected an educational CD based on  the "Three Little Pigs", saying that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

The prize-winning "Three Little Cowboy Builders" which is aimed at primary children, was also attacked by judges for the agency, Becta, for offending builders. Good grief.

The BBC reports the agency had "concerns about the Asian community and the use of pigs raises cultural issues". The judges criticised the stereotyping in the story of the unfortunate pigs: 'Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?'"

Cue the Twilight Zone music.
