Saudis Still Ban Valentine’s Day

02-13-2008

The only red flowing in the streets of Saudi Arabia this Valentine's Day will be blood from the occasional public execution.

Valentine's Day observances in any form remain banned by the ruling Wahhabis, who call it a "pagan Christian holiday." And the sale or display of red roses has been forcibly shut down in Saudi for the week leading up to February 14.

The Saudi religious police, the Muttawa, whose official name is the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, says it has undercover agents prowling the streets, enforcing the ban.

Here is a bouquet of news articles about it.
