The Joy of Walking on the Soles of Her Feet!

3-year-old Raysa lives with her mom Magaly and two brothers in a rural town in Peru. The little girl was born with club feet.  “I thought it was a punishment,” said Magaly. “I cried because nobody else in my family ever had anything like this.”

As a single parent, Magaly supports her children with a small store where she sells juice and snacks. She has been able to feed her three children but could not afford the cost of the surgery to correct her daughter’s condition. For years, ever since Raysa was born, she has searched for help from hospitals and clinics but she was always turned her away.

“They told me if I wanted surgery for my daughter, it would cost 750 dollars! I didn’t have that kind of money,” Magaly told CBN.

So, Raysa learned to walk on the sides of her misshapen feet and ankles. Doctors said without surgery she would eventually not be able to walk at all without crutches.

“I had always wanted a baby girl. But when I saw her struggling to walk it made me despair."

Then one day she found a new clinic. A doctor there told her to contact Operation Blessing. When we went to visit her, we gave Magaly the answer she has been waiting for! We arranged free treatment and surgery that her daughter needed to be able to walk. A month later we were there and watched as Raysa walked on the soles of her feet for the first time!

Next, we bought Raysa a device called a Dennis Brown Splint, which she’ll wear at night to continue the process of straightening her feet. And she’ll also receive additional physical therapy for the next year.

Now she walks and runs well and she can enjoy her childhood.

"I am grateful and joyful. I am very happy! Thank you,” said Magaly.
