Ruth and her daughters were forced to live in a tent temporarily after a fire destroyed their shanty town home in Belan, Peru.   They had just returned from visiting Ruth’s sick mother when the saw their house in ruins.

“When we got back, everything was ashes and smoke,” said Ruth.

Ruth and the girls lost everything in the fire, but her youngest daughter Sheika, who is 5, seemed to be hardest hit by the loss.

“My pink dress and my shoes were burned, everything burned,” she told us.

Ruth is a single mom—abandoned by her by her husband. Before the fire, she supported her children by baking and selling items in the market.  Sheika liked to help.

“I like being with my mom and I love her a lot,” Sheika added.

But everything from the business was destroyed too.

“At night I would cry asking God why all this happen to me,” said Ruth.

When Operation Blessing came to the community to help, we learned that the government would re-build the houses.

So we provided everything Ruth needed to restart her baking business, including pans, ingredients and a new oven.

“Since I was very young I worked hard. I never had anyone giving me anything!” said Ruth. “It is a joy for me to receive all this.”

Finally we took Sheika on a little shopping trip and bought her silver shoes and a new pink dress just like the ones she’d lost in the fire.

“Thanks Operation Blessing for helping me and my girls to push forward,” said Ruth.

“Thank you for my new dress and shoes!” said Sheika as she modeled them for us.
