Picking Weeds to Feed Her Family

10-year-old Sam Thea and her family have faced hard times ever since the COVID Pandemic hit the nation of Cambodia. “When Covid hit, mom lost her job at the factory. We didn't have any food to eat,” the young girl recalled.

Sam Thea's mom, Savun, is a widow. She recalls, “It was difficult during that time. I could only find enough money for us to eat once a day. I sold my earrings for money to buy food. The most difficult time was when the country was locked down. I had to go pick weeds to make food.”

“We were poor before the Covid-19 outbreak!” added Grandma Sopheap. "Some days I earned a little planting or harvesting rice. But it still was not enough for food for my grandchild.”

Sam Thea had been attending CBN’s Superbook classes at a church in their community before the lockdowns. She’d prayed to become a Christian there, and actually helped her whole family to become Christians too. Her pastor contacted Operation Blessing and told us about the family’s need for food. We delivered food packs to them on three different occasions.

“Thank you for helping us in our time of need,” said Grandma Sopheap. “I am speechless! Now I am crying for joy!”

“Thanks for the food you gave to us. My family had enough to eat!” added Sam Thea.

“I ask God to bless those who helped us. Now our lives are better thanks to you!” declared Savun.
