Stepping in a New Direction

INDIA - Never in his wildest dreams did Siddaram ever imagine getting stampeded by a buffalo. The freak accident crushed his leg and his ability to take care of his family until CBN’s Operation Blessing got him stepping in a new direction.

“Without Operation Blessing’s help I wouldn’t be able to provide for my family,” Siddaram says. “My injury made my life really bad.”

The wound became infected. That’s when things went from bad to worse for the 40-year-old seasonal farmer. Doctors told him they must amputate to keep the infection from spreading to other parts of Siddaram’s body.

“Their suggestion really shocked me. I worried about how I would feed my four children and my wife. I was the only one who worked,” Siddaram recalls.

But his wife and children persuaded Siddaram to let doctors remove his leg. After the surgery he needed more help than ever.

“I couldn’t move around without someone helping me,” he remembers.

Depression set in. His wife went to work in the fields and some of the younger children would go with her at times to help out. Siddaram did not like being a burden to them.

“Constantly I hoped and prayed that there would be a way to bring my family relief,” he says. “Then I heard that Operation Blessing would be holding a medical clinic and providing free wheelchairs and walkers to those in need.”

The whole family waited excitedly for the day they could get a walker for Siddaram. Once the big day arrived he went to the clinic with his daughter. After examining him the doctors gave Siddaram a walker. Now he has mobility and his independence back. More importantly he can provide for his family again.

“I thank you Operation Blessing for giving me the opportunity to walk and work again!” exclaimed Siddaram. “I will now be able to do my part in bringing some income to the family again. You have brought hope to us! Thank You!
