A Movie Worth Watching

01-18-2008

Faith and politics have really intersected big time in the 2008 presidential race. Now there’s a full length movie about the topic. It’s called “Article 6: Faith, Politics America/u1 :place>”. More on what it is about below:/span>/span>/span>

The documentary Article VI is an intense discussion of the role of faith in politics. In the heat of the current presidential campaign, Article VI makes an unbiased presentation on a volatile topic. It asks voters whether they would have denied America/u1 :country-region> some of the greatest presidents in history because of their religious beliefs. Article VI of the constitution ignites the film’s exploration of the current political environment, religious bigotry, and intolerance in America/u1 :country-region>./span>

Political strategist Ralph Reed is involved in the project. Here’s what he told me:/span>

“I just think this is a very timely moment to talk about the need to celebrate faith and the role of faith in our politics and public policy while at the same time making sure that we don’t have a religious test for anyone to serve. You’ve got arguably, the most energetic religious ferment in the 2008 election that we’ve had than any election since probably 1960 when John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic to ever be elected President. You have the first genuinely viable Mormon candidate in Romney. You have the first viable ordained pastor, in this case a southern Baptist minister in Huckabee. You have the first viable African American candidate who has a Muslim background but now he is a professing Christian. And you’ve got all the Democrats doing everything they can to reach out to religious voters and engaging for lack of a better term in “God talk”, scripture and so forth. I just think it’s fascinating.”/span>

It really is must see watching for those interested in both faith and politics./span>
