Obama Campaign says Ludacris song "Outrageously Offensive"

07-30-2008

Obama and LudacrisHave you heard the latest song by the rapper Ludacris? The song IS Ludicrous. Listen to it here.  The song attacks Hillary Clinton, George Bush and John McCain.

Here's one line from the song:
McCain don't belong in ANY chair unless he's paralyzed.

Then Ludacris said this about Obama:
With a slot in the president's iPod Obama shattered 'em
Said I handled his biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers.

You see Obama and Ludacris have a relationship.

They have teamed up on AIDS awareness before and have held at least one private meeting together. Read more here. He has also said how he has some of Ludacris's songs in his ipod. Read more here.

I am not going to define what their relationship is like. Only Obama can do that but with a song like this heard by millions of young people around the country doesn't Obama have an obligation to speak out against it? Obama has talked about the need for rappers to clean up their act. Not only is this song offensive, but it cheers for an Obama victory. It begs for a comment from Obama himself.

UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign spokesman Bill Burton sends this statement to The Brody File

“As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to.  This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear.  While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."
