When Your House Shakes in the Wind

Cho Than is a single mom. She’s been raising her 3 children alone ever since her husband abandoned them. They live in an old shack in Myanmar.

“Our house is damaged. The floor is okay, but the walls and roof are useless. It always shakes in the wind,” said Cho Than fearfully. “Sometimes it felt like we were swinging on a hammock because it moved so much!”

Cho Than provides for her children by weaving bamboo mats. She barely earns enough to buy food. There was nothing left over to repair their broken-down hut. “I had it in my mind to repair it, but feeding my children is a priority,” Cho Than told us. “We try to patch the holes with rags and old thatch to fix it.”

Operation Blessing met the family as we distributed food to her community. We saw the shack they were living in and we built them a new house that is sturdy and dry. Then, to help increase Cho Than’s income, we provided her with 2 goats to raise and sell.

“I felt happy for the food, and now I am so happy with our new house,” said Cho Than with a smile. Cho Than says her children, including 9-year-old May, are now safe   in their new home.

“I am so happy to have a new house,” said May. “Now, there were no more holes, and I will not get wet anymore when raining! Thank you for giving me a new house.”
