Berdayansk, Ukraine

Veronika, 40, was dying from a tumor on her right adrenal gland. She urgently needed surgery and remembered the day she knew something was seriously wrong.

“The doorbell rang and I went to open it,” she told The 700 Club. "But my leg wouldn’t work! There was a sharp pain like I got hit by electricity!”

Veronika is single mom from Ukraine. After her husband abandoned her, she was left to raise their 2 children alone. Recently she also took in two nieces and a nephew who’d been dropped off at an orphanage because their mom could no longer care for them.

“I took them in because they were my nieces and they’d been separated. We are poor, but I knew I had to do something for them,” she said.

Veronika and the children were surviving on a small government pension, but she couldn’t afford to pay for the life-saving surgery she needed. As time passed, she grew more dependent on her minor aged children to care for her and to take care of the house.

“She couldn’t walk and had to stay in bed or on the couch,” reports Ksyusha, Veronika’s 11-year-old daughter. “We went grocery shopping. We had to take care of our mom.”

“There are no grandparents or relatives to take them in,” Veronika told us. “If I died there was nobody. Every night I prayed and asked God to heal me!”

When Operation Blessing learned about Veronika’s condition, we took her to the hospital and arranged for childcare for the children. We then paid for her to have an operation to remove the benign tumor and the damaged adrenal gland. Veronika recovered and within a few days was able to return home to her children.

“When I arrived the kids ran up to me. They hugged me and everyone was talking at the same time!  We missed each other so much!” said Veronika.

For the first time in a year, Veronika said she has felt “normal” and was able to care for the children. “Now I run around to get everything done,” she said. “I tell them to 'move faster' and I can keep up with them! I want to say I am grateful that you saved my life! Thank you!”
