Your Love Came to the Rescue!

Christina and her boys have been through a lot of challenges, but their love for one another sustained them.  “My family is everything to me,” Christina shares. “They keep me going. They keep me strong. They are the reason why I wake up every day and work and do the best I can.”

Christina suffers from lupus and has gone through many seasons where she wasn’t able to work. She says, “There are several times in my life that I have had flares where I have been bedridden. No matter how hard it was, I always moved forward. I always kept on trying to work. It makes it hard to keep a steady job. Choosing between paying bills and groceries, there’s times that you don’t know what you’re gonna do. You don’t know how to face your children when it’s dinnertime or they’re hungry and you really don’t have anything. It almost feels like you’re drowning and you’re taking your children with you.”

Her church, OpenDoor in Burleson, Texas, has partnered with Operation Blessing for thirty years. When she found out she could turn to them for help, everything changed. “If you had a need and if you were hurting and you were broken, they were there to bless you, and when I leave I always feel empowered and I feel refreshed and I feel like I’m not alone,” she shared. “The food that you receive, the quality is great. The kids get excited. I get excited, because it’s like, ‘Oh, what do we get to make? What do we get to have?’ You know, and you don’t have to make that choice to pay a bill or to get food, and you feel good as a parent being able to put that on the table for your kids.”

Now Christina is in the process of starting a home-based business. She says she’ll always be grateful for Operation Blessing partners who gave when she needed it most. “‘Thank you,’” she says. “The food from Operation Blessing has helped me get back on my feet, and not just by providing food, but providing a good example for me and my children. When I do have, when you give something, you don’t have to think about it, just give it. The partners of Operation Blessing, they have just totally changed my life and my children’s lives.”
