Eight Nepalese Christians are set to go on trial next week for sharing their faith with children.

This is the first religious freedom violation case since the country implemented a new constitution in 2015 that outlaws evangelizing.

The World Watch Monitor reports that the Christians were arrested after handing out a pamphlet about Jesus in a Christian school. The Christians were a part of a ministry called Teach Nepal and were handing out the pamphlets to help the children mourn after the massive earthquake that struck the country last year.

"These people have done nothing wrong," said Baranbas Shrestha, Chairman of Teach Nepal. "They didn't hurt anyone, but still they were handcuffed."

The eight Christians are charged with violating Article 26, paragraph 3, of the Nepalese Constitution, which says "no person shall act or make another act in a manner which is contrary to public health, decency and morality...or convert a person of one religion to another religion." They will face the charges in court Friday.

Not only are individual Christians being targeted, the government announced last week that all Christian orphanages and boarding schools in Kathmandu would be forcibly closed and fined if a single Christian book was found in their institution. Children were also banned from praying or attending a Bible club.

These are just few examples of a government that has grown increasingly secular and hostile towards Christians.

World Watch Monitor says Nepali Christians are "increasingly under threat."
