Six years ago a young girl was hospitalized after her father beat her for converting to Christianity. Today she has a profound message of forgiveness and faith.

According to Open Doors USA, in 2010 a young Ugandan girl named Susan was locked in a closet, beaten, and starved by her own father for converting to Christianity.

Now, at age 16, she still bears the scars of her abuse.

Susan cannot walk without crutches and still faces surgeries, but she has never stopped loving Jesus or her father.

"I forgive my father because he did not know what he was doing," she said, quoting Jesus' words in . "Please pray for my healing. I want to walk without the crutches."

The torture Susan suffered was psychological and physical.

She survived the abuse with the help of her brother. He put food and water through a hole under the locked door to help her survive.

When Susan was finally rescued she was at death's door.

The ten-year-old child weighed only 42 pounds, could not walk or talk, and her black hair had turned yellow from malnutrition. During her year-long stay in the hospital, Open Doors worked hard to provide her books, food, and clothing.

Despite the torture she clung to her faith saying years later, " I cannot leave Jesus. I decided not the leave him because he has given me eternal life. And, even if I died there, I was sure that I would go to him."
