JERUSALEM, Israel – The first month of the New Year saw a 27 percent overall increase in the number of tourists coming to Israel from the same period last year.

There was a 100 percent increase in tourists from Poland and a whopping 300 percent increase from China, the Tourism Ministry reported.

According to the report, there were some 210,000 tourists in January 2017 compared with 165,000 last year.

Tourism Minister Yariv Levin attributes the steady rise to the ministry's marketing campaigns.

"For the last few consecutive months, we have witnessed record figures in incoming tourism to Israel. This is no coincidence, but rather policy," Levin said. "The marketing activities and the steps that we are taking to brand Israel in the campaign 'Two Cities One Break' are proving themselves time after time," IMRA (Independent Media Review and Analysis) reported.

Levin said the increasing numbers of visitors to Israel show that the marketing campaign is effective. If Israel continues along this path it will see significant increases in the future.
