President Obama: No Immigration Fix for Now

There's no immigration fix planned, President Barack Obama told religious leaders at a meeting in the Oval Office earlier this week.

According to Rev. Luis Cortes, head of the Hispanic faith-based organization Esperanza, the president said "he would not be doing anything to change the law as it currently exists."

"This is one of those issues that isn't a red state, blue state divide," Russell Moore, with the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tenn., said.

"As I go around the country, I find very, very few people who would say our immigration system is working well," he continued. "Most people agree across the religious spectrum, across the political spectrum, that our immigration system is broken."

The White House said the president told the leaders that while his administration can take steps to administer immigration laws, only Congress can permanently fix the broken system.
