A British man allegedly tried to kill Donald Trump during a rally Saturday at the Las Vegas Treasure Island Casino.

Nineteen-year-old Michael Sandford had been living out of his car in the United States illegally, after his visa had expired according to various reports.

Sanford approached a police officer at the Trump rally ,telling him he wanted an autograph from Trump. While attempting to distract the officer, he tried to take his gun.

Sandford reportedly told an agent he thought he could fire one or two rounds before he would be killed by security personnel.

Other officers were able to detain him quickly without any further disturbance.

Sandford has been planning the attack on the presumptive GOP presidential nominee for a year. The day before the attempt he practiced shooting at a gun range in Las Vegas.

At a court appearance on Monday, Sandford was charged with "committing a violent act in a restricted area," according to reports.

One person close to Sandford said he believes he has some form of autism, saying "he was very calm, very quiet, a little bit weird and reserved."

Sandford is now facing a possible 10-year prison sentence.  It has not been determined whether he has entered a plea or if he has an attorney.
