North Carolina churches are trying to unite people after the presidential race left some communities divided.

With emotions running high, Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, gathered together on Wednesday for a healing service after the results of the presidential election were announced.

"I look at the eyes and see there is grief work," said Pastor John Earle of Avondale Presbyterian Church. "But let's be honest…no matter the outcome there was going to be grief work on both sides."

"We need to move forward as a nation," he added.

Another Charlotte church, the New Birth Empowerment Church, also held an event to calm emotions after the election.

"It's not who is in the Oval Office," said Pastor Horatious Harris. "At the end of the day you want to make sure you have your faith in God, not in man."

He added that the Charlotte community's healing won't come quickly, but that it is a pastor's job to give hope to a hurting community.

"If you feel like it's dark, then that's a great time to be the light," said Pastor Harris.
