Islamic Extremists Attack Cities in Yemen and Nigeria
Two radical extremist groups killed at least 21 people in cities in Africa and the Arabian peninsula this weekend.
Sunday, a huge explosion killed the governor of Yemen's southern Aden province and six of his bodyguards. The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for that attack.
The Associated Press reports that an IS affiliate claimed the attack in a statement circulated online by supporters, saying the bomb was concealed in a parked car along the route traveled by the governor's convoy.
In Nigeria, three female suicide bombers killed at least 15 people and injured 130 in Lake Chad on Saturday.
Nigeria's intelligence agency recently arrested nine alleged Boko Haram extremists plotting attacks on the capital over the holiday season.
Boko Haram's six-year uprising has killed close to 20,000 people, including many Christians.
